Author Chris McNab tackles the details of that clash in "Greek Hoplite Versus Persian Warrior", an Osprey Combat Series book.The author introduces the period and the conflict before launching into a detailed discussion of the respective military forces. He analyzes the three key battles of Marathon, Thermopylae, and Plataea as his examples of clashes between the Greek and Persian militaries. There is a concise but worthwhile concluding analysis. The narrative is nicely supported by period and modern illustrations and some well-done battle diagrams.The author takes an even-handed and suitably skeptical approach to his topic, dispensing with some of the more exotic assertions about the battles. For this reviewer, he succeeds in providing a fascinating comparison of the Greek and Persian military systems, including why one prevailed over the other in this instance. Well recommended.

An Osprey classic.
Book in great condition
This book gets only two stars from, not because it was a bad book, but because photos, maps, drawings, and other illustrations were missing, survived by only portions of the accompanying caption. Very disappointing. I wish I had bought the conventional version of the book.Text and properly placed illustrations were excellent.I do not recommend the Kindle edition.
