What I liked about this book is that it gave me some new ideas and a fresh angle to view some of my work practices. That made it well worth the read.What I found a little frustrating was the repetition of some of the concepts - not as though for reinforcement alone, but more as though sections were taken from a blog, or articles, and combined to make a book. The majority of the book didn't read this way, but when it did, I found it irritating.Overall, I have no regrets! I can skim redundant info as easily as the next gal, and there's some good stuff in there.As an aside, decided to try Audible for the first time with this book... Cool feature! I didn't know if it would work in the car on my iPad (without wireless), but it did! I'll add that on again!

Excellent book on more efficient life and work.I have read many of this type of book and this one has some of the most easily leveraged information.My email is not overwhelming any more.I actually respond to the ones I want to.My desk is very organized.There are some top level kaizen and lean management ideas that you can add to your everyday work with ease.What can I say, I like it and have implemented most of the strategies.

This is a very readable book with many tested ideas about how to increase organization and efficiency, but it is quite narrowly tailored towards "office" jobs. That's fine, but I bought the book looking for more general "life" skills--which are present, but scattered throughout, so I ended up briefly scanning several irrelevant chapters.Still, he has many good ideas and practices, so the book was worthwhile.

Listened to the last edition CD in my car, and had to have a copy for my desk. I haven't read it yet, but it has very good information and I feel it is very good for those who need a clean start on their way to organizing their work life. Lots of great ideas.

This is an excellent and troubling book. I would only recommend, however, that those who are well-versed in Catholic theology and history read it, for several reasons:1) Especially in America there is a tendency to treat a pope as a living saint, and this we know from history is often far from the truth. Popes are people too and thus often succumb to their own temptations and weaknesses, which is true in this case as well as any other;2) Someone ignorant of true Catholic theology and doctrine may construe the findings in this book to mean something it does not - namely, that either Catholic doctrine has changed (which it hasn't), or somehow it's no longer any different from any other Christian belief (which it definitely still is);3) The Church throughout history has suffered from plenty of other terrible events, challenges, thoughts, what have you - from periods where three people all claimed to be pope to times where the pope was hostage to hostile kings/countries to times where corruption was so bad that people felt they didn't need the Church anymore. What these historical events teach us is that the Church is made up of people, many good, many bad, and we have to remain educated and vigilant lest we put too much faith in princes...With that, I would say that this book is very enlightening about the current deplorable situation in the Vatican. If you have sturdy faith and good historical knowledge, this will be very instructive and valuable, but don't let it lead you to a place where you doubt the Truth, for it (He) always wins.

Wow! I am a committed catholic and I was expecting the worst but what I have read so far is far worse than I could have imagined. I am only a third of the way through it and will update later, but the author exposes the shocking moral corruption in the Curia and elsewhere. Powerful homosexual lobbies, homosexual orgies and rampant moral corruption thrive. All this goes on unabated by Francis.Has this shaken my faith? No, because my faith is in Jesus who is the real head of the Church. No matter what the failings of his representatives in the Church I will stay because He stays.The real problem in the Church is that so many Catholics including laity, clergy , bishops is that they have not encountered the living Christ and do not have a personal relationship with Him. It would be impossible for a homosexual lobby to exiist in the church if all had a deep personal relationship with Christ.I think that Christ will purify his Church....at the time of writing, Archbishop Viganò has just called on the pope to resign. I am hoping and praying that this will be the beginning of the unraveling of the corruption....starting at the top.Update September 3, 2018Double Wow!! Finished the book last night. It is much much worse than I could have imagined.Francis has changed the rules for the Synod debate whereby the Bishops ability to debate is severely limited.He has stacked the synod with his own cronies.He has left paragraphs in the final synod report that the Bishops rejected.He has closed down flourishing orders and seminaries because they are too conservative.One order of nuns was chastised because they “pray too much and fast too much”. Can you believe that?He is vengeful...any critics are punished severely.He has temper tantrums and outbursts of rage...if you don’t believe me, just google....Pope Francis loses his cool.He has deliberately planted confusion in the minds of Catholics by making seemingly heretical claims.He refuses to answer questions on doctrine (dubia) that the cardinals have presented to him. The latest is that he has refused to confirm or deny the accusation by Archbishop Viganò that the notorious sexual abuser of seminarians, McCarrick was sentenced by Pope Benedict to a life of prayer and penance but this was reversed by Francis.I was dubious about this pope right from the beginning but this behavior and the prophecy by StFrancis on his deathbed rings true. The following is the essence of St Francis prophecy.....“Act bravely, my brethren; take courage and trust in the Lord. The time is fast approaching in which there will be great trials and afflictions; perplexities and dissensions, both spiritual and temporal, will abound; the charity of many will grow cold, and the malice of the wicked will increase. The devils will have unusual power; the immaculate purity of our Order, and of others, will be so much obscured that there will be very few Christians who obey the true Supreme Pontiff and the Roman Church with loyal hearts and perfect charity.At the time of this tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavour to draw many into error and death. Then scandals will be multiplied, our Order will be divided, and many others will be entirely destroyed, because they will consent to error instead of opposing it.Some preachers will keep silent about the truth, and others will trample it under foot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them, not a true Pastor, but a destroyer.”It makes sense to me now....I always understood that the Holy Spirit guided the choice of the cardinals in electing a new pope. How could the Holy Spirit choose this guy? The phrase in the prophecy that struck me was “not canonically elected”. The cardinals are not allowed , under pain of excommunication, to lobby and push as partisan groups for a particular candidate. There was widespread lobbying by the St Gallen group before and during the conclave. This really means that Francis’s election was invalid and the cardinals that lobbied for him should be excommunicated. Francis was not canonically elected!!Faithful Catholics should beware of the times ahead as this destroyer “pope” will continue his assault on the teachings of the Catholic Church. You should buy up copies of the Catechism of the Catholic Church before this pope bans them.Update 7 September 2018I have just read that NY attorney general Barbara Underwood has subpoenaed all eight dioceses in New York State. This will be bigger than Pennsylvania and I am sure it will lead to other states following. The lies and cover ups and abuse will be brought out into the light.Praise God!Update 25 September 2018The rats are deserting the sinking ship. Prominent left/liberal German magazine “Der Spiegel” has just published an 18 page article which is highly critical of Pope Francis. It accuses him of lying, cover ups , bullying and even addresses the key issue...homosexuality in the priesthood. Pretty much the content of Sire’s book really.The end must be near when even your friends put the boot in.Update: October 4, 2018Cardinal Müller has confirmed that he was ordered to stop the investigation into Cardinal Murphy- O’Connor by Pope Francis himself. The Pope called him while he was saying mass...he was forced to stop saying mass and had to take the call from a very angry Francis who ordered him to stop his investigation into sexual abuse by Murphy-O’Connor. Cover up anyone?

It is unfortunate that such a book needs to be written. I commend the author for the courage, discipline and attention to detail in such critical and sensitive matters. The book is well documented with clearly measured and superb journalistic work. Sadly, if a fraction of the references, quotations and insights presented are true, then we have a catastrophic reality on our hands within the Catholic Church. Yet with all the references from input from outside reliable sources and insider whistleblowers, it seems that the vast majority of what is presented is incontrovertible. There is so much here that compels anyone serious about the Catholic faith to sift through, process and deliberate upon, that will inevitably lead to further investigation. In particular, significant attention must be made with reference to the St. Gallen "mafia", into whether the papal election itself was valid from a canonical perspective. There is too much evidence of lobbying for Bergoglio, with apparent knowledge and consent, at this point for this issue to go unchecked. Particularly disturbing is the fifth scrutiny, a fact which alone may invalidate the election of Bergoglio. I have thirty years of global management experience in very complex and high pressure institutions, and I have personally witnessed every major type of management behavior. This Pope speaks of collegiality, dialogue and mercy, but his actions belie these sentiments. The dismissal of the entire membership of the JP II Academy which took an oath on the dignity of life, and subsequent installment of Paglia, alone suffices for a massive inquiry into the true aspirations of this pontificate.

I do mostly landscape and outdoor photography, trying to “capture the moment” on my frequent camping and fishing trips. I want to get better pictures, as what I usually end up with are images with blown out sky and clouds, you know, not much in the way of details. I purchased this book as I was waiting on the delivery of my first DSLR. It is only a couple hours reading and very concise. By the time the camera arrived I felt like I had exponentially increased my understanding of its functions and settings, drastically improving its value to me. A worthy start to anyone's photography adventure, and a great companion to a new camera purchase.

The author does a great job of explaining these key building blocks to great photography. Start here if you are not extremely comfortable shooting in manual already. I don't have all day to sit around reading, and with this book I got the information needed so I could get out there with the camera quickly.

Another Al Judge, huge print book. It is very brief, thus the large letters. Would be 20 pages long without a large font. As to the content, my this is a beginning beginners book. If you know what aperture and shutter are, this book is too simple for you.

Al Judge, author or photography master? I say both, I have read a couple of his other books and they are all the best of the best. This book, Mastering Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Exposure has taught me more than the college-level photography course I took over a year ago. This book should be the textbook for those courses. I was still unclear about many aspects of photography until I found this book. Of course, I took better pictures but I wanted to know what made them better. We can always better ourselves but if we don't know why or how, then we have limits. Al Judge takes away those limits and explains to the reader, very clearly, what kind of effect a certain technique or just a slight change would make to the final product. My pictures always seemed a bit "noisy", but by making better sense of ISO speed, Al has taught me how to correct that problem in such a way that I could actually explain it to someone else. I think that is the best way to judge a book, not just by how you interpret the information, but how you can relay that information to someone else. You can go through and read all of the reviews you want, or you can just buy the book and start taking better pictures right away.

This book clarified a lot of questions I had in regards to ISO, appitature, and shutter speeds. In am new to the art of photography and would recommend this book to others who are starting out.

The book is quite an easy read, easy to understand and straight to the point. I learned quite a few interesting things - how pinhole cameras work and the role of aperture, exposure and few methods of setting it right, reading the light diagrams and using them for setting the exposure. I'd also add to this book the formulae about the exposure that are available on Wikipedia and that express the relation between the exposure, aperture and shutter speed.

Good book to help you better understand the relationship and workings of these settings. After all why have a thousand dollar plus camera if you're just going to shoot on auto? Get this book and start shooting in manual mode,

Short and SWEET! Bought this for my daughter who is just getting into photography but I also found it very helpful. Zeroing in on the basics of exposure this book is a great, easy to read primer for just about anyone. The real-life examples were great! Would like to see more of those - maybe an entire book with these examples - illustrating various techniques. I'd much rather read a short book describing one person's approach than a large tome explaining all the options. The cameras today are techno-rich and a hard-to-get-through manual is something that sucks the fun right out of a inherently fun activity. Thanks for a concise, helpful (and affordable) book!

Patricia Cornwell's book left me very unimpressed. I have read all her Kay Scarpetta novels, and I don't remember feeling that they were full of holes and fluff, like I felt with this book.Unfortunately, I feel that instead of doing the research first and making her conclusion based on that research, instead she came to her conclusion and built the research around it. Her psychological "profiling" seems completely fabricated. She takes quotes completely out of context. She refers to artwork and paintings of Sickert's that she doesn't include. The whole book seems like an essay that she had a word count to complete, and she's filling in with alot of fluff because she doesn't have enough meat or real evidence to make her case.As far as the much-ballyhooed DNA evidence, even that wouldn't hold up in court, much less the court of my armchair. Even if it conclusively proved that Sickert's DNA was on a letter that was signed "Jack the Ripper" that couldn't possibly prove that the letter writer was also the murderer.I'm very disappointed in the book as I thought it would have a much more scholarly feel to it. Probably only dedicated collectors of all things Ripper will want to read this as it probably does, at the very least, bring a few new things to light.

Patricia Cornwell's recently released Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper Case Closed claims to have brought closure to the century old Jack the Ripper murders. She stakes her claim on the innumerable number of "coincidences" tying Jack the Ripper to Walter Sickert, a famous British painter. She applies modern forensics, psychological profiling, and DNA sampling to once and for all resolve the identity of Whitechapel's infamous butcher.Throughout the book, Cornwell's talents as a best-selling fiction writer are evident. Her descriptions of 19th century culture and forensic technology are extraordinarily vivid, with a rich, story-like detail throughout. Biographical sketches, the biting taunts of the Ripper letters, and eye-witness accounts are impressively presented and bring to life the circumstances surrounding the crimes. But little is offered that will supplant a host of other theories on the actual identity of Ripper. Cornwell's logic is faulty and at times self-contradicting. Oversights are common and alternative scenarios that point away from Sickert are either unmentioned or ignored. Contrary evidence is manipulated until it somehow points back to Sickert, and the validity of every point hinges on a profane number of conjectures and speculations, few of which are supported by a single scrap of evidence.

With Ms. Cornwell's considerable forensic skills highly advertised and on display, I was expecting much more. Thus, it is an understatement to say that I was disappointed in this fictionalize non-fictional hunt for Jack the Ripper.It seems to me it did not take highly touted forensic skills to rummage through history's dustbin. Do so in a very disjointed way; throw out a few rehashed random facts and theories, and then add a few of your own -- like Walter Sickle's paintings and a concocted theory about his missing testicle or "penile or anal fistula" -- and then like magic claim them to be the holy grail and the missing link to the Ripper's murders.To her credit, Ms. Cornwell does go through the motions of building a circumstantial case. She draws on paper watermarks, on graphology and handwriting analysis, mitochondrial DNA analysis, and then delves quite extensively into Walter Sickert's eccentricities.However, this all seems to have come together in a contrived way. Sickert had been waiting in the wings all along to save the storyline. Suddenly, Sickert was trotted out just as the story was about to fall apart due to lack of any semblance of convergence. It all came together so quickly, and in such a disconnected way it left the reader the impression it had been done as a last ditched plot-saving desperate act to find a neat ending -- as a way of pulling together almost by fiat, so many disparate threads that could never come together otherwise.Maybe I was expecting too much to think that with newer forensic techniques there would be a neater more conventionally linear scientific convergence of the existing evidence. In this version, there was no convergence at all. We simply were led down one primrose path after another: all to dead-ends; and then suddenly, as if a bolt from the blue, in walks old "one nut" Walter Sickert and his paintings to save the day for Ms. Cornwell's story and presumably her reputation.Two stars

As an environmental science educator my role is to make my students aware of the many problems plaguing our planet. For years we used to teach science concepts in a vacuum of facts and figures, but we now recognize the power and need of stories, story telling and photography to make students and people everywhere aware of the environmental and social issues that require attention and a much needed motivation to take action. I have been a fan of Mr. Brandt's work for years and have used his powerful b/w images in class often to both tackle conservation issues, as well as demonstrate the power of photography in exerting positive change and a sense of empathy and communal push for change. This latest work titled This Empty World is truly a moving, haunting, brilliant and much needed series. I was blown away by the "show, don't tell" thematic direction of the work, where the images are the next step in the evolution of Mr. Brandt's environmentally-focused photographs; the images are in color, their mis-en-scene brilliantly and dramatically composed and the technical aspect that anchor the inception and execution of some images nothing short of breathtaking. I look forward to sharing this in my courses as a call to action and a new way to add a much-needed, compelling visual narrative students can explore. I know this work's impact will be iconic and deeply effective- just as iconic and impactful as Mr. Brandt's previous images of African mega-fauna. We can expose students to the science of conservation and biodiversity issues, but we must also appeal to their sense of wonder and inspire them to dream for a better world they can aspire for through action, communication and change.

I have admired the photographer's work for awhile and absolutely love the book. His work is fascinating and powerful. I will be buying it for gifts for my photographer friends and my animal loving friends!

Unlike the Kaplan or Princeton Review or even the Manhattan Prep books, the ETS ones are definitely the ones that come closest to the testing experience you will encounter for your GREs. Given that they are the test makers, I would highly recommend that you invest in mastering these questions toward the end of your prep. While the books are great for test prep, they do not provide much in terms of strategy.For those preparing for GREs on their own without a prep course (I didn't take one and I was fine. All you need is the right materials and determination. You'll save yourself thousands of dollars!), I would recommend:-Downloading the Magoosh vocabulary app on your phone. It's free-Reading through the Magoosh website for their free materials (they give sample essays and grades as well as tips and advice)-Borrowing the most up-to-date GRE prep books from your public library (Manhatten Prep workbooks and Kaplan are highly recommended)-Take a diagnostic test and find your weaknesses (which types of questions do you tend to get wrong)-Use the 5lb GRE Practice questions by Manhatten Prep and focus on your weaknesses.-Use this powerpack to familiarize yourself with actual test questions.

I am a Harvard grad, 99% GRE scorer and professional GRE tutor, and I'm fairly obsessed with this test. In fact, I still take the GRE at least once a year (last exam: 169V / 168Q / 5.5 AWA) to stay sharp and up-to-date.As many others have already indicated, you need these books because the included practice tests / questions are the real deal. The fact that Princeton and Kaplan GRE preparation books--full of fluff, filler, willful ignorance of the GRE official materials, and typos--sell better than the GRE Super Power Pack is an absolute shame. After many years of receiving scant practice material from ETS, I am relieved to say that ETS has now provided enough official materials for a nearly full preparation for the GRE, so the purchase of other learning and strategy guides can be kept to a minimum.I say "nearly" full because 2 CATs (computer adaptive tests) is not enough. The physical books are a nice asset, as are the paper-based practice tests, but for a computer adaptive test, you have to spend lots of time preparing on a computer. For this purpose I prefer to buy a single book from the Manhattan Prep GRE series (such as GRE Fractions, Decimals, & Percents (Manhattan Prep GRE Strategy Guides)) , in order to gain access to its 6 online CATs. No, they are not real GREs, but they are still decent for practice.It is worth noting that this is primarily a book for practice, not learning. The answer explanations in these books can sometimes be severely lacking, or in the case of the PowerPrep tests, nonexistent, which is part of why hiring a professional tutor can be helpful. However, for the disciplined and resourceful self-studier, these three books, the 2 (invaluable!) PowerPrep II CATs, a good vocab guide or two, a strategy guide (avoid Kaplan and Princeton--I prefer Barron's and/or Manhattan) and some third-party CATs should do the trick.HOW TO USE THE FREE GRE POWERPREP SOFTWARE FROM ETS:Test preview tool: This will allow you to try some practice questions as well as two essays.Timed Practice Test #1: This is your first official GRE practice test, and should be taken at the beginning of your preparation to establish a baseline score.Timed Practice Test #2: This is your only other real GRE practice test, so save it for the last few weeks of your preparation, as an unbiased, trustworthy measure of your progress.Untimed Practice Test: This is exactly what it sounds like, but I don’t recommend taking it because it’s exactly the same as Practice Test #1. After you’ve taken Practice Test #1, however, feel free to use the Untimed Test for additional practice on the tricky ones.The test preview tool is simply meant to help get you familiar with the test and software interface, not to mimic the actual timing of the test. The test preview tool provides 7 verbal questions in 30 minutes, which is 4.3 minutes per question, and 11 quantitative questions in 35 minutes, which is 3.1 minutes per question. By comparison, on the actual GRE, you only have 1.5 minutes per question on both the Quant and Verbal sections.To take a diagnostic test, click “Timed Practice Test 1” or “Timed Practice Test 2.”There is a row of buttons at the bottom of the software that says “Start Test / Resume Test / Review Answers:”Start Test = resets any old tests (WARNING! Be very careful not to click this button by accident--many students have made this mistake) and starts a new test. Because pressing just one wrong button on this test can delete all of your previous results, I recommend taking frequent screenshots, especially of your review screen, which lists all of your correct and incorrect responses. For your screenshots, use either the "Print Screen" (Windows Key + PrtScn) button on a PC or (Shift + Command + 3) on a Mac.Resume Test = pick up the last test from where you left off.Review Answers = review your performance on the test, section by section (you cannot go back once you've completed a section without exiting and reviewing again).In-between Timed Practice Tests #1 and #2 is the best time for students to work through the Official GRE Super Power Pack (these books), which consists of approximately 600 more real GRE questions for practice, along with (moderately helpful) answer explanations and learning sections.Need more help with Math? The test produced by Manhattan are not real GREs, but they still provide good practice and are of higher quality than most other imitation GREs. Most of the tips and strategies discussed in these books are discussed online for free on ETS website. The CD for the computer delivered tests provided in the pack is also provided for free online on the ETS website. The two individual quantitative/verbal reasoning books only offer 3 subject specific practice tests each (and basicallu repeats everything of the third general book which provides 4 tests). Only good thing is that these books offer real practice tests. It would be much more useful for ETS to offer more online practice tests, however, which are extemely useful to get quick scoring feedback and preparing properly for the compter delivered tests.

I had to retake the GRE after my old scores expired. I used another prep brand then and was not a fan. This pack had great reviews and it's made by the test makers themselves, so why not? It was a great decision. I scored higher than when I was in college. I loved the explanations of the questions. They were really helpful on the topics that were foggy from years of being out of academics. The practice exams look just like the regular exam and it was nice to see the formatting so I knew what to expect. I highly recommend these prep materials, even if you're in the middle of college now. Many of the questions are not even designed for you to figure out the answer, but to be able to reason the best choice quickly. Practice a lot and time yourself. Be sure to look up other free prep materials and pointers as well (Magoosh was a good supplement). Also, all of the potential writing topics are posted online. USE THEM.

I am currently studying for the GRE and plan to take the test in September. I have been working sedulously (you need to know this word lol) since January 1st 2017. This is the only resource I am using in addition to the Magoosh GRE Vocabulary App (Free in apple app store). The main book starts off with a sample prompt for the writing section and gives examples on a score 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, & 1 paper so that you can see how the scorers evaluate you. It also provides some guidelines on what test questions to expect from Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. There is a Math Review that breaks down what concepts you need to understand. At the end of the book, there are 2 practice tests and a CD-ROM containing 2 digital practice tests. The Verbal Reasoning book & Quantitative Reasoning books contain many useful practice questions to help you prepare for the test. This is my 4th month studying and these 3 resources provided more than enough practice to fill my time. I recommend this prep pack if you're going to get just one resource to study from. I will take the test for my application to graduate school and am confident that I will get accepted. =]

Really great addition to my Ferrari library. Contains a lot of information I wasn't aware of. Great book for fans of Ferrari!

I bought this book at the "Ferrari: Under the Skin" exhibition at the Design Museum in London, where it is marketed as the exhibition "catalogue". While it may be a good book on its own, it in no way represents what was on display at the museum. Out of the 200+ artifacts I saw in person, maybe a handful are in the book, but none of the cars, engines, or bodies.

Poor value for $'s spent. This is a very tiny 60 question 'booklet' - not a book. Was hoping for a lot more questions. Should be more like $10-$15 for what it is.Also, I had already paid $50 to write an on line practice exam through the Castle testing and many of the same questions were duplicates in the book. To those looking to do a practice exam - do one or the other. Both was a waste of money.

$24 for a little bitty pamphlet with only thirty test questions? Please. This kind of profiteering makes PMA look greedy, and makes me not wish to get involved.

I found this to be very poorly written and formatted HORRIBLY! Was it needed to successfully pass the test? Yes. Which is why I gave it 3 stars. But they should really review the content and make it more reader friendly.

Kind of flimsy for the price, but good practice questions.

Most of the questions are included in the PMA test. Good tool. A little pricey.

A lot of useful information. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

A must have for taking the PMA Certification exam!
