The essential book on classical mysticism from all traditions. Old but good. Not about psychics, mediums, or magical beliefs. Includes lots of quotes from original sources, both well-known and obscure. If you're interested in what real mysticismis, or are a mystic, or are just curious about this consistent human experience, get this book. 99¢. What a deal. I wish the table of contents was linked, but you can't have everything and its being on Kindle is a wonderful advantage in itself.

Elaborately and complex written in the fashion of pre-TV scholars and word lovers, Underhill can weave the essence of experiential reverie in with various doctrinaire perspectives. This book is not for the light reading moments. It also is not for the skeptic looking for heuristic debatable perspectives. Instead, this book helps disclose the journey of the would-be mystic, the newbie mystic, and the profoundly experienced mystic. Accordingly, Underhill reveals revelations of an ever-evolving mystical soul who forever spins into the next amazing discoveries of mystical practices and consciousness. Enjoy

If you're interested in Mysticism, this is a must read. I've read many other books on mysticism and I find this book to be the most comprehensive and straightforward. Underhill has a beautiful style of writing, and she writes with much conviction. As you read you'll realize how she really poured her heart and soul into this book. A precious book, buy it and sink in.

Obviously one of the great masterpieces relating to mysticism. An absolute must for anyone interested in the subject -- authorative, well written, superbly documented. Any christian, buddhist, zuni or anyone else interested in non-materialistic realities should be well aware of this text.

This book was recommended by my Ancient School of Mysticism. The Author describes many aspects eliminating some nowadays misuses of the term. What matters most: it is a wonderful book for those interested in the Interior Path.

Ignore the fact that this book was written a century ago; it remains relevant, brilliant, and mind-opening. Maybe more *because* of its age than in spite of it? I don't know, but I found it absolutely riveting. I decided to get it because I wanted to understand the Christian mystics, and the author doesn't disappoint.

I just started reading books by this author. It is a book for ones advanced in mysticism. Because of the era it was written, it has been taken some time to readjust my reading capacity for that time. I only have one drawback with this book, and that is the publisher's font - very small. I have had to use a magnifying glass at times. Other than that, I have truly enjoyed the book. I received it in perfect condition and in a timely manner.

Very broad-ranged and through survey of mysticism, what it has meant over the years and how it compares with other practices to achieve higher states of consciousness.

Aiyn has been keeping out of James' way, but she's not really hiding. She is practicing to meet James face to face. Meanwhile James is still trying to come up with an epic proposal for Shay. All of the characters we've come to love show up in this episode. When Aiyn, as the Silver Ghost, meets up with James, it is a battle to remember! Finally, James ignores everyone's advice about the proposal and goes with his heart and it is epic! Now it's Shay's turn to plan the wedding - can't wait for the next installment!

I just finished this latest episode, and I really liked liked it. I think the proposal set up and scene was perfect! I've been reading Mr Anderle's books for a couple years now, and my biggest complaint is I'm having difficulty keeping up with all the different series in the two universes. If you haven't read much of this author's writing, you should. Start with "Death Becomes Her", and go on from there. You'll love them all.

That was awesome! I was really surprised with the outcome of the proposal. Usually I can see what’s coming and this time it just came out of the blue so to speak. Hehe. What a great job! Now I am in full anticipation of the upcoming wedding and alien interactions. Along with the Codex of the Gods and Daniel’s participation. I just love Brownstone! And Shay!

A very satisfying arc ending book. James and Shay (spoiler alert) are finally betrothed and that damn alien gets her comeuppance in an awesome one on one battle. Really enjoyed the confused NSA alien in the desert as well. The author notes promise more Brownstone adventures ahead which I look forward to. Well done Mr. Anderle!

Brownstone stories just keep getting better. They are fantastic and can’t wait for the next one if you haven’t read the series be careful because you’ll become sleep deprived and then you’ll find the other series who are equally as good and there you go down the rabbit hole again. ENJOY

Love the action, the humor and the over writing style of this author. This series has a lock of butt kicking and bbq loving bounty hunter who makes your day a bit lighter and fun by the end of this book. Can't wait for the next one. Don't miss out!!

Then Shay dilemma continues. Tough battles for teams. Brownstone is still in the action. Questions about close encounters come into play. Very interesting and let's you know more is to come without cliff hangers. Highly recommended.

This edition is solid. I've read some translations long ago from Rexroth but these feel much more fluid and insightful.

Du Fu in his life time never was praised and respected with such attention, even though he (my idol) deserved all the praise!A Poet's Biography and his Poetry in one booklet in picturical and musical English!This is the best way to honor a poet, and all of English poems of Du Fu, that I always telling myself that poetry can be translated when I become a part of that poet, and what's better than a bio and poems on every page in the order of years (timeline). David Young is awesome poet and I can feel how much life he spends to just meditate with the words of Du Fu, I am a Chinese and American too, I could recite most beautiful verses of Tang and Song poets, I have so many poetry dictionaries that categorized by topic, object, style, scene, image... but I have not seen a lot of poet's bio and poems in 'one', but Mr. Young created something new for poets. This way readers may understand the poet more, why he writes curtain poem and how he feels at that moment in his life, and the same journey we are guided by this.This book is must buy! and Mr. Young's Five Tang Poets too!If our parent is smart, then we must give our teenage children this book and along some others, these poets are the best teachers in human history, because they condense their life and soul into a few beautiful words that we can obtain the lesson of art, wisdom and humanity thru all the natural English poems. And this translation, all the poems are natural as Chinese aesthetic standard, Natural (Zi Ran ''''the highest standard for art or skill, which the thought and character and action of a person harmoniously meld into one with nature and society, and Wang Wei, Li Po, Du Fu... and many are all natural, and now Mr. David Young's translation and a few other awesome Chinese poetry translators mastered their words and feeling and thought to be natural with my idol Chinese poets, and I guess poets are all stream into the source, the one source, and that's where they all come from. And I believe all these translators are going something great right now, and future will praise them forever!I hope someone would publish my poems and a short bio in one booklet after I am with all the great poets, oh, so happy about my idol and so much envy too!

He includes opposing interpretations of the work and many dates. I ordered this book after visiting DuFu's thatched cottage near Chengdu and have since learned more from the author than I did upon my visit! He makes the history come alive, and one can picture the cranes gliding above the pond near his cottage, the chill of the cold air, and more.

Many beautiful translations of Du Fu. The poems are translated in such a way as to reveal Du Fu the man as well as his times. Certainly worth a second read and third read.

Du Fu a poet that lived long ago, allowed me to view life and think as I read his words the feelings, behaviors, choices and perceptions do not change. Life's spirit remains the same no matter what century.

I love Lonely Planet books that cover the world. Please add even more photos and cut off politics (unless its a security warning for a certain region, for instance), and you will be even better. I can't wait to see the next edition. I hope you will publish one every year or two, and dramatically increase the number of Cities. Some I did not see in the book included Philadelphia and Eilat. However, I learned a lot about places I knew as well as totally new places.

I bought this as a gift for my husband. He loves it. Pictures and information on every page. Very nice large book.

This book gives every city in the same outline as strengths, weaknesses, a perfect day and many other titles. It takes cities from all over the world so there can be some places you have never heard of. The pictures on this book are stunning, it is worth the money just for these pictures. Lightroom is a complex application with loads of features, many of which are hidden or aren't intuitive. This book does a really nice job of going through the core application, digging into those magical features, and explaining many use cases and workarounds that may not be obvious to a beginning user. Great job, in the casual and humorous style I've come to enjoy from the author.My one critique is the section on Lightroom CC (nee Mobile). Both the desktop and mobile versions are still evolving rapidly. That led to the CC sections not QUITE matching up with the current versions of the apps. For a book dedicated to Classic CC, (INCOMING PERSONAL OPINION) I feel these could've been dropped or re-tooled to feel like a "here's how to make CC improve your experience in Classic CC" message.

I've read his previous Lightroom books and unfortunately, besides changing his work flow, there is not enough "new" info to make this worth buying. But for me what was really disappointing was the fact that there are glaring typos - doesn't anyone proof anymore? I wouldn't even call them misspellings - just typos but come on! Maybe he's just dashing them off so quickly that they are not vetted but I found this one had more "fluff" than his other books and too much time spent on modules that most users don't bother with.

Scott Kelby's style of writing his instruction books never fails. He is detailed, easy to follow and always entertaining. This is a must have book if you have questions about Lightroom anything from how to get started to wanting to know more advanced features. I find all his books, and this is one is no exception, to be very friendly and you will be on your way to enjoying and learning Lightroom. Lightroom is not an easy program to learn on your own. Thank God for Scott Kelby who makes it a pleasure to learn it.

I read Kelby's earlier edition several years ago and found it very good and helpful. But I really have not been following all the changes/improvements Adobe has been making to Lightroom over the years. This edition on Lightroom CC is introducing me to many of those changes I knew nothing about. And these changes are for the GOOD. Many procedures are much easier now but I never knew anything about them until I started going through this book. Get it!! You will not regret it!!

This is a great book with a good systematic approach to understanding Lightroom which is a rather complicated software program. This enabled me to understand and take advantage of the software's capabilities. Highly recommended.

I first learned Lightroom reading Martin Evening’s 2009 book on Lightroom 2, but thought I should upgrade my manual to reflect improvements over the past nine years so I purchased Scott Kelby’s latest. My impression is that Kelby’s is overly simplistic – it would probably work well for someone that has no Lightroom experience, but anyone with any digital photo manipulation experience would likely find it too elementary. I am still finding myself going back to Martin Evening’s old manual for information. The two books are about the same size, but Kelby’s has an inordinate amount of fluff and an overabundance of photo examples.

Kelby always entertains as he writes. It is so full of helpful information that requires using before you really understand the full impact of what you have in this book. As always it is extremely helpful with a good index. Lightroom has so many hidden gems in the program and Kelby will helps us uncover them.The only helpful thing might be a keyboard shortcut cheat sheet.

I am and have been a long time lover of culture and religion. So much of my reading over the years, focuses on non-fiction titles which can be classified in those two categories.First off, I have never read anything else by this author, and this is the first book completely dedicated to the yokai that I have read. So my knowledge as well as my experience may be a bit flawed by these facts.Over all this is a really good book, and a very readable book, the latter will come as a bit of a surprise to those whom are familiar with academic writings. Which this book is, but the author says very early on in the book that his aim while writing was to bridge the gap between academic and lay reading, and I think he did a very good job at this.Now don't get me wrong, there are a few places where it gets bogged down a bit, in explanation and theory, but it doesn't last long.I think the most useful thing about this book, not only the obvious that you will gain a lot more understanding about the yokai, but also, how "beings" and "ideas" such as the yokai, have changed, adapted and evolved alongside the Japanese culture, with no break by a competing or subjugating rival religion.This is something as westerners we do not have the luxury of enjoying when it comes to pre-Abrahamic beliefs, as they did the favor of either erasing, changing or subverting our ancestors pagan beliefs to the point that eventually you have to dig through a cultural array of different "Christian" festivals and traditions, to get the puzzle pieces of one unified idea or another. Doable, and is done.But its nice for a change to be able to see the entire "horizon" if you will, without having to change our vantage point over and over again.I think there is a lot to be learned here from that perspective, on top of yokai in general.In the end, if you have even a faint interest in yokai, and you are relatively or completely new to the study, I imagine this book probably ranks high up there in areas to not only begin but get your footing.

While I have not finished the book yet, I will say I fully enjoy it. I am very interested in Japanese culture and also the various stories/myths/etc..Also as an artist always looking to learn more about the legends and creatures of different cultures. This book is more of the academic. If you are looking for something with just a bunch of stories of youkai and pictures, then this isn't exactly the book for you. The first part of the book gives a nice look into the history of the youkai in Japanese culture, their evolution, and so on. The second part of the book has a few illustrations and a listing of various youkai with descriptions and mentions some of the tales surrounding them. I would say if you are someone who has been interested in the subject and are looking to learn more about how these various entities appear and evolved in Japanese culture you might enjoy it. If you are looking for a quick summary of youkai, or a more illustrated piece, then you may be disappointed. For me, I gave it 5 stars because I find it quite enjoyable and interesting. Although, that is just my opinion.

I picked up this book because I really enjoy reading and learning about the lore in all cultures and yokai themselves are such a fascinating topic. I think the thing that makes yokai so fascinating is that they continue to evolve and even to this day they are everywhere in Japan. I think it's one of the few places in the world that's really like that (maybe Iceland to an extent as well). I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in folklore and/or yokai in general. I know that there were complaints about the lack of images in the book and their quality. However, there are 30 images in a 310 page book(that's counting the back pages of notes, references, and index) so about 10 images per 100 pages. That's pretty decent for an academic-esque book. Also, the images are drawn in a traditional style so yeah. The notes and bibliography are both incredibly useful and have given me a list of more books to buy.

Very well written, like an academic book. I am only a few pages in, but i am already absolutely in love with this book! The illustrations are beautiful, and the inserts of personal experiences and stories ties the book together. I am so glad i found this with just a passing glance. Certainly a diamond in the rough.

I've been doing my best to find research on yokai for over five years. The book explains the progression of yokai folklore in Japanese culture before introducing us to them, which was proved helpful. It breaks down the progression and changes of their impact over the ages. It's more than simply telling us about the different yokai, but understanding why yokai exist.

Choose it!

Both fun and scholarly, this is a great resource for those interested in learning about the traditional aspects of yokai, as well as how those roots have evolved into contemporary times. I really enjoyed this well-researched book and the author's passion for the subject matter shines through.

A must-read book for anybody interested in yokai or Japanese folkloric traditions. Can be used for academic purposes but isn't dry. Michael Dylan Foster is one of the big names in English version Japanese folklore, and you'll find that the majority of somewhat intelligent yokai books are his contribution. For a more casual read, try Yokai Attack.

I've enjoyed Steve Davies other Haynes books and have always had a bit of a "soft spot" for this mean, ugly beast of a plane. The result is a fairly solid reference book that's let down somewhat by the limitations of the Haynes format.If you've owned any of Haynes other modern combat aircraft manuals, you know what to expect. There are introductory chapters describing the plane's design and development, the different variants, operators (mostly a list of squadrons), and a brief overview of the A-10 at war. The second half of the book is more technical in tone, with chapters on the aircraft's anatomy (flight control, hydraulic systems, landing gear, etc.), the TF34 engines, and weapons and sensors. We get a chapter on flying the A-10 over Kosovo in the FAC role in 1999, written largely by Col. Phil Haun, and a brief chapter on maintaining the aircraft. Finally, there are a couple of appendixes, including a complete list of production numbers. The text is accompanied by a large number of excellent color photographs, which should prove useful to anyone super-detailing their model, along with technical diagrams from the original manuals.Although this is yet another enjoyable "workshop manual," I'm starting to feel the novelty of the Haynes format is finally starting to wear off. I've followed the series for years, and I've noticed that many of the recent books have been rather cold and slickly produced. Considering how durable, (relatively) cheap to operate, and rough-and-tumble the A-10 is, you'd think there'd be a more about maintaining the aircraft than a few pages near the end. Even the famous GAU-8 Avenger only receives a couple pages here. I don't want to suggest this book is bad (it's actually fine the way it is), but I wish Haynes would start including a download code with their books so readers can access material that had to be edited out for reasons of space.Although it's obviously dated now, A-10 Thunderbolt II (Modern fighting aircraft), later incorporated into The Great Book Of Modern Warplanes, provides a more well-rounded insight into the early model A-10s, its weapons and avionics, and the tactics they would have used against Soviet armor. This book focuses largely on the 'C' model and is a fine update as such, but it's a little too slick and polished for a book on the A-10.

I've watched this plane fly over most of my adult life. I remember watching the guys practice over Ft. Leonard Wood while I was in basic training. The book is really great. I just wish it had pictures of the 2 seat model that they built. Also they include an Appendix of Production numbers but that could have been augmented with disposition (like listing ones that had been modified or were on display or ones that were written off. I look forward to getting the rest of this series. (Next one is SR-71).

Nothing is better than the A-10. Since I can't have an A-10, this is the next best thing. 3rd best is maybe getting a model.

Great book, love the Haynes approach, used their books for decades to work on cars.
