I was happy to see a Young Adult novel about East Harlem (El Barrio) during the time of the Young Lords efforts there. I was disappointed by the poor writing and the contrived relationships of the three generations of Serrano women. However, because there is a dearth of children’s literature about Puerto Ricans in the United States, I would have to recommend it.

This lovely book came to me in perfect condition! It even had that new-book-smell. The hard-back cover also has the medal for the Pura Belpre Honor. Definitely a great buy.

A charming book written by one of television's most endearing personalities. An elegant peek into the lives of children and young adults growing up in New York from years past. A book for younger girls and a cross-cultural memoir about life and being true to one's self. Strong portraits of interesting adults and younger teens.

Was too little for me, but perfect for her! If you like politics, specially in this day and age. Good.

This was a good read, a great perspective of a time period of which many know little about. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the daughter, her mother, and her grandmother - an easily relatable aspect for many young girls. I would consider recommending this to many of my students.

I believe this was translated from Italian to English, and while the content is probably important for beginners, it is a very bad translation. grammar errors and words smashed together without spacing makes it extremely hard to follow. I couldn't even finish the book it was so bad. I suggest a group of editors skim through the book over the weekend and fix these issues so this book can be added to an artist's library.and for those who need the information from this book, you can find just about anything in a tutorial on CGcookie on YouTube.

I have a few years of using Blender and use both 2.79 & 2.80. At 75 I still like doing art! But I need some guides to make the models. This Kindle book has a tremendous amount of useful information. As long as you can live with typo's and words not separated (which I can) you will love all the tips & hints you will get.

About the Author

Javier DeFelipe, PhD is a Research Professor at the Instituto Cajal (CSIC) located in his hometown, Madrid, Spain.The particular expertise of Javier DeFelipe lies in the microanatomy of the cerebral cortex. Since 1991, the main focus of his team has been directed at understanding the neurochemical and microanatomical characteristics of the neocortex and of the hippocampal formation. The information that has been obtained regarding the normal organization of these cortical regions has been used to investigate the possible alterations that might occur in these structures in epilepsy and Alzheimer disease. Another of his principal interests is in the study of the history of our current understanding of important aspects of cortical organization and function. In particular, he is interested in the origins and the roots of cortical histology and circuitry.

This book is a collector's item for those interested in cell structure and/or those who love beautiful line drawings and delicate paintings with exquisite detail. Plus, there is plenty of text to give the reader plenty of context for the plates. A unique book.

This book is incredible, a must for anyone who loves science and art. The pictures are gorgeous, and there's just the right amount of text to provide background without detracting from the art. I am thrilled to have found a great deal on it, as it is usually priced high, but it is worth it for a beautiful coffee table book, or just for reference and enjoyment.

The reproductions of neurological drawings in this book are stunning, and hard to find collected in one source like this. The text is fascinating, giving a brief overview of Cajal and other neurological pioneers, as well as a brief overview of the structures depicted. The quality is very high, the book is densely illustrated, and I feel it's worth the price to have this treasure of a book.

This book is a landmark for those studying the development of neurology; the beautiful original art provides so much insight to the complexity of the interconnections of the brain. This book definitely met my expectations.

As someone who enjoyed The Shadow of What Was Lost (The Licanius Trilogy), I had high hopes and expectations for this sequel - and I feel that they were blown away."An Echo of Things to Come" follows the same main four characters of its predecessor: Davian, Caeden, Asha, and Wirr. Islington chooses not to add new perspectives, but continues to tell his story entirely from their viewpoints. While in the first novel the characters were largely together on a journey and took part in the same events, in "Echo" they have spread across Andarra. The characters do interact, but on a smaller scale. Each one has their own plot and character arc to engage in.Islington provides a detailed synopsis/summary of "Shadow" at the beginning of the novel, which helps set up and keep track of the characters. That being said, I'd recommend re-reading the first book before jumping into the sequel (and not reading this as a stand-alone at all). With the threads of the story becoming more and more spread out, the demand on the reader grows. Helpfully, there's also a glossary of characters and terms in the back of the novel this time around.The plot is good, but not incredible. I found it to be appropriately predictable (the type of predictable where you have a hint at what will happen next, and when you're surprised previous hints become obvious), and very well paced. The weight of the story falls on Caeden's shoulders - an amnesiac who discovers that he is in fact a legendary figure at the end of "Shadow" - and felt very much like the other story threads were interspersed with his. This isn't explicit in the structure, but just as Davian had a great deal of "screentime" in the first novel, so Caeden does in the second.Caeden's sections and characterization are why I loved "An Echo of What Was Lost." We get to watch in the backseat as an immortal of immense power re-discovers his tragic and bloodsoaked past. Caeden and his fellow Venerate (the other 8 legendary immortals he has known for millennia) are the centerpiece and shining star of "Echo." Their ancient history together is well-conveyed, and crafts an emotionally compelling tale.The great question of this novel is if El (God) is who he claims to be, and what actions are correct to do in service to the divine, or to the greater good, and so on. It might not be a novel for all tastes (I find these moral questions fascinating), but for me it was wonderful. Even though I'm fairly certain what Islington's answer is regarding the identity of El (as known to the Venerate), I finished the novel still not-quite-certain that Caeden et al were on the correct side.I'm not sure I've ever read a fantasy with such delicious, fitting ambiguity.Caeden's plot was easily my favorite (is it obvious?), but the others weren't lacking. All in all, "Echo" answers most of the many questions left in the air at the end of "Shadow." Each character arc gets a conclusion, and the cast is brought back together for the final climax.The biggest complaint I have is that the climax felt weak. The largest portion takes place from Asha and Davian's perspectives. Islington does a good job with following his themes of self-sacrifice and moral choice; however, just before the final choices are made a battle occurs in Asha's perspective which feels very out of place. That battle feels like it's just a 'battle for final battle's sake,' and seemed a bit formulaic and disappointing.On the upside, the epilogue was spectacular. Throughout the story we receive Caeden's memories through a sequence of triggered visions, and a good portion of the epilogue is one final, astonishing recollection.I look forward eagerly to "The Light of All that Falls."

I loved the first book. Read it three times so far. I was scared, but hopeful that this second entry wouldn't disappoint. It wouldn't be the first time I loved the first book in a series, just to see it go downhill. I am so pleased to say that this book is every bit as great as the first one, and maybe better!How effortlessly it builds upon the mythology is something to behold. The amount of back and future story that interweaves into the current plot can make my head spin. To be blunt, this series is not for the casual. It requires effort to keep it all straight. If the story was even a four star quality book I might not have kept looking up the Glossary to make sure I had the right person or term straight. Yet this book is so good that I gladly did it.The biggest drawback of this book is same as the last book. Mr. Islington does a lot of telling instead of showing. Way to many times he tells you what a person is feeling instead of letting the characters actions show you their feelings. A lot of young authors do this. They do not trust that the audience will get it unless they spell it out. If he can get better at this one thing I think he will stand shoulder to shoulder with the greats.I am giving this book some extra credit. There is so much more I need explained about back and future story moments that the third book will really show if this is to go down as one of the greatest works in fantasy of all time. So far I would say it is two for two!This book sheds some light on the first making that one a better book. Some truly great twist happen. Simply put I cannot wait to read it again... and again. I truly hope this series finds a larger audience. It deserves the attention of a Mistborn or a Game of Thrones.PS. The story is excellent and a great follow-up to the first book. I can't wait to read the conclusion to the series! However, I'm disappointed that it doesn't sync with the Audible version of the book, like The Shadow of What was Lost. It was very frustrating and slowed down my reading considerably. It is a testament to how good the actual writing is that I only marked it down to 4-stars, because the lack of compatibility reduced my enjoyment by at least 2-stars, which I guess means it's a 6-star book!I'm being a bit facetious, but I would have returned the Kindle edition, if I hadn't waited more than a week past the date I purchased it to start reading (I was re-reading the first book.) I figured that if there are other people out there who normally use Audible narration that they would want to know that this is an issue with the Kindle edition; I know it isn't listed, but I didn't realize it would be so frustrating trying to get the two to work together manually.I hope that they eventually update this book and consider having the feature ready when third book is released. Otherwise, I'll just buy the audiobook next time.

I took Jimmy's "Programming Blockchain" bootcamp and witnessed first hand how much Jimmy prepared for his teaching material. His material is amazingly in-depth and comprehensive. From finite fields math to elliptic curves to how wallets and transactions are created, to the different types of transaction formats and how to create them yourself, to more advanced topics like SegWit and Lightning. This book is the result of Jimmy's many hours of teaching. I can't recommend this book enough to anyone who seriously wants to get their hands on Bitcoin scripting or learn how Bitcoin works under the hood.Be warned, it is not a light reading and it's best to work out all the exercises yourself (there are plenty, enough for you to be able to create your own Bitcoin wallet software at the end). IMO this book is the equivalent of one maybe two graduate level courses if it's taught in universities. Well worth the investment.

After reading this book, you will understand Bitcoin. This is by far, the most clear, yet comprehensive, work on Bitcoin.Inventing Bitcoin was a feat because it took concepts from numerous disciplines and combined them in an elegant, never before-seen way to invent digital scarcity.Number theory, Computer Networking and Protocols, Smart Contracts, Game Theory and others, all contributed key ideas to the invention of Bitcoin.Therefore, understanding Bitcoin is no small task. Jimmy song makes Bitcoin accessible by elucidating key concepts in a highly technical, yet digestible way.I cannot recommend this book more highly. If you are interested in understanding Bitcoin, please read it.

Poorly written in an awkward and distracting first person point of view.Author is never able to establish the central premise. These characters are supposed to have an intense, tragic romance that moves us to tears and sadness. But this is not portrayed by the book or characters. Rather, the author just tells us that it is an intense and tragic romance. She never convincingly shows us. The characters are unlikeable and selfish. Because of the first person point of view I never even remotely understood the main male character's motivations. The characters never have a serious discussion regarding their relationship. No depth whatsoever. We are just told to believe their romance is amazing and worth the constant betrayal of the main characters wonderful husband and children. Emotional and physical adultery are portrayed as hopelessly romantic. Finished and could not have cared less about the "tragic" ending. Last punch of the book was Lucy ruining her third son's life with another first person (lol) letter saying what an amazing guy Gabe was.

I found the book ok, but I have to say that I think that is biased because of my age. I thought Gabe was a selfish prick who did not care about the havoc he wrought in Lucy's personal life. He cared about people but only from afar. Lucy was willing to ruin her family, cause upheaval in her children's lives, hurt a man who had done nothing but love her. If she had truly loved Gabe, she would have left with him the first time. Now that is from a perspective of 66 years. If I was 23, I would have loved this book. So go figure.

Mild spoiler alert!! I won't tell the ending, but my opinions on the plot are hard to explain without some examples from the book.I had heard a lot of hype about this book. It has a good premise, and the writing was very clean and straight forward. No bells or whistles, but had a way of cutting to the point very succinctly. I appreciated the writing. With that being said, it was conversely very dream-like, partially due to the 1st person voice retelling a story in flashbacks that started college in NYC during 9/11 and went to somewhat present time. The perspective was unique, in that although it was first person, Lucy was telling the story TO the other character, her first love, Gabe. So there were a lot of random "But you remember that I'm sure" kind of lines thrown in that caused brief confusion to me as the reader. About halfway through I got tired of the entire premise. Each chapter ends with a mysterious cliff hanger sentence of impending doom, and it builds and builds. The reader is waiting for this huge event/climax to wrap it all up, and it just never really happened. That part fell flat. The other thing that started to bug me was I felt less like this was sweet first love and more like this was obsessive-mental-disorder love. There is a time to grow up and move on, Lucy. Still contacting your college boyfriend after you are married with kids is not only stupid and selfish, but what husband outside of an unrealistic book is ok with that? It just lost some of its realism to me and I lost more respect for Lucy with every page I turned. If she were my friend I would tell her to grow the hell up and move on. It was kind of pathetic, really. I wanted her to tell Gabe to lose her number and focus on her two children rather than spend what was by all accounts a wonderful life mooning over some selfish college love who dropped you like hot potato over and over again. It's called closure, Lucy!The three stars is for the concise, clean writing, and the fact that I did have a visceral reaction to the plot, even though it was wanting to smack them both and roll my eyes at the ending.

Maybe I wouldn’t have hated this book as much if I didn’t hate the selfish, self absorbed, delusional narrator so much. I also couldn’t get past that this “love story” began after the twin towers were bombed by terrorists on 9/11. Maybe because I lived through that (like anyone else born before that date) and remember clearly it was not a time for romance. This story read more to me like a cautionary tale on the importance of LETTING GO as opposed to obsessing over lost first loves. I almost feel sorry for anyone who would actually identify with Lucy. Please, move on. You deserve better and I promise you better IS out there.

I found this book unbelievably boring and slow and o.m.g. so many moments I thought like Phoebe from Friends, ‘Get yourself together, woman!’ towards Lucy. I cannot in good conscience recommend this book. For shame, RW. One of the reviewers had it right when they said it was more like a mental issue-obsession than love.I also did not like the justification of infidelity. The worship of “true love” and its ideal is so blown out of proportion. I sometimes wonder how much detriment and disservice Hollywood and the Westernized way of thinking does to us.But then again, that’s why we read books... to escape reality.I just couldn’t get into the story. I didn’t feel the main character was strong enough. Or well developed.

Massively disappointed that theskimm has highly recommended this novel. While the writing style and voice are authentic, the main characters are hardly likable, borderline annoying - one is a self-absorbed romanticist with a life-long daddy issue; another is an unappreciative, narrow-visioned wannabe feminist who's hopelessly unaware of her own selfishness and her lack of responsibility in the name of pursuing "true love". I did not cry; I did not laugh; the storyline is so predictable that I had hoped that there'd be this amazing twist at the end. Well, that never happened. I almost got angry that I wasted my entire train ride on this frustrating tale between two reckless and childish fictional lovers. Not worth it.

I'm shocked at how many 5 star reviews this got. This "love story" was nothing more than a story of infidelity. From the moment Lucy meets Darren (not far into the story) the book is entirely about how unfaithful she is. I did not find this romantic in the least bit. She disgusted me. Also I predicted the ending early on, it's pretty obvious.
