I was pleasantly surprised by this little bookâ€”far more than a mere essay, but short enough to be read through in one or two sittings. Itâ€™s packed with useful info, but never overwhelming. Keiper somehow manages to satisfyingly cover all sorts of stuff in a short space: the practical aspects of internet safety, the psychology of our addiction to devices, various aspects of cybercrime and cybersecurity, the deep and dark webs, and so on. He has a gift for ferreting out disparate strands of data and assembling them in an interesting and useful way. The book ultimately paints what I found to be an insightful overview of â€œweb lifeâ€â€”in particular the potential dangers out thereâ€”that filled in many of the gaps in my knowledge. And although it isnâ€™t intended to be any sort of cybersecurity â€œbible,â€ the book does offer a simple, intelligent and easy-to-implement plan for making personal cybersecurity a habit. Putting all this info in one simple package is incredibly useful, and to that end I intend to send copies to several people in my life who could use a straightforward yet engaging review of the dangers of the web.

His book " Cybercrisis: Its Personal Now" is detailed enough to cover only what is needed for the reader to understand the scope and urgency of the cybercrisis we are facing, but without boring the reader with unnecessary fluff. In spite of it being relatively short, he still managed to support his arguments with research findings and valuable statistics from reliable sources. He even managed to smoothly squeeze in lots of practical tips and a glossary of terms making it a valuable and timely book.As William Keiper said in his introduction: "Even if you are a technology expert, comfortable with digital technology, or already consider yourself a safe navigator of cyberspace, you may discover some interesting facts and perspectives within these pages."I am not a technology expert but I am very comfortable with digital technology and consider myself a safe navigator of cyberspace. Cybercrisis, is a short book by William Keiper that not only highlights the dangers that can occur on the web, whilst using a computer, app, and games console (those that are linked to the internet), but also how people can become so addicted to their phones etc, that they forget about their safety.William has spent most of his life working in computing, and has a vast knowledge of the potential dangers. Throughout the ten chapters, he has broken down and written in plain English, what he knows could, and often does, happen on the web. From having your personal information stolen when companies are hacked, to what the deep web is, and how it could affect you.In todayâ€™s society most people under a certain age use a computer, tablet, or phone for accessing the internet, with a vast majority using it numerous times daily. Unless you are completely security savvy, you may not realise how vulnerable you really are when it comes to your web usage.Throughout the first nine chapters, William explains what security flaws occur, and how. The last chapter is all about giving you some useful hints, tips and advice for staying safe online.Whilst I think that this book is a great idea, and with it only being 90 pages it wonâ€™t take long to get through, I did find it somewhat boring. My daughter introduced me to Charles Wysockie's art work when I was looking for something to do with my hands after I quit smoking over 21 years ago. She taught me how to do counted cross stitch and the first piece I did was a simple CW of a main street at a far away time. I loved it and though I've done many cross stitch pieces since, I always come back to CW. He calms me and makes me feel, just by looking at his paintings, that everything is going to be alright.A few years ago, my daughter (again) gave me a wood wall calender holder for a Thomas Kinkade calendar. I like Thomas Kinkade, but when I found CW calendars that would fit in the frame, I started using them. They never disappoint and every month is an art treasure. I'm so sorry that Mr. Wysockie is no longer with us, he was such a wonderful talent. I save all the caledars from previous years. I wish I could frame every picture and put it on my wall, but I don't have room since my walls are filled with cross stitch of CW and others. Thank you Mr. Wysockie for your beautiful mind and vision.

The makers of Centrum Silver should consider changing the size of their pills to "mini" and the directions to take 2 at a time. Even by splitting the pills they are difficult to swallow although eating yogurt with them does help. ...

We buy a Wysocki calendar for ourselves every year without fail. In fact, there are friends and family members we also buy for for Christmas.

These calendars are Americana at its best. This was purchased as a gift for my wife for her bithday. She was thrilled.

I usually buy Wysocki Americana calendars when visiting the USA. They are stylish, colourful and have a warm and happy appeal. This year no travelling but I still have the Wysocki appeal, thanks to Amazon. Delivery from the USA was very quick.

really like the 2012 Wysocki calendar--the first print for Jan. is different-with an old skiff (boat) & old man that makes bouy's--of course the rest of the calendar is good too---we love his work anyway. Received it in a timely manner--very satisfied.

I've been a huge Charles Wysocki fan for at least 20 years (ever since I got my first Wysocki puzzle). Since then I've put together many of the puzzles and 2 years ago started getting the calendars (only started two years ago because I didn't know they existed until then). I have the 2012 it in my office at work and routinely get compliments on it. It truly becomes a daily inspiration - as I do take a little time each day to admire the beauty of the paintings. I hope Mr. Wysocki's family understand the impact his work has on people he never met (I'm sure they do). I especially like the Nov. 2012 scene "Indian Summer in Vermont."

The two had a whirlwind courtship, and before long, the girl had immersed herself in his world. Good for her.â€â€œWell, the story doesnâ€™t quite end there. She finished up college but was having the worst time trying to secure a job. No one wanted to hire her to run a business when her only experience was secretarial work for her ex-fiancÃ©â€™s family carpentry company. So she embellished her rÃ©sumÃ© a bit. Instead of saying she was the secretary of the carpentry company, she wrote she was the manager; and instead of listing her duties as typing up quotes and answering phones, she listed preparing bids and negotiating contracts. Her improved rÃ©sumÃ© got her a job interview at one of the biggest property-management companies in New York City.â€â€œDid she get the job?â€â€œNo. Turned out that the personnel director knew her ex-fiancÃ©, knew she had lied about her responsibilities with the carpentry company, and berated her during the interview.â€â€œOh my God. And, as with most of Keelandâ€™s and Wardâ€™s heroines, sheâ€™s without friends (which I find preposterous as nobody is an island). Anyway, moving on.By a stroke of luck, Charlotte finds a love note that, as it turns out, leads her to Reed.By another stroke of luck, sheâ€™s immediately hired by Reedâ€™s grandmother because, of course, Reed was mean to her and while she was hiding in the bathroom, crying her eyes out, serendipity happens.Imagine for a second all the ducks that needed to be in that one row, managing to somehow create a circuitous meeting for these two. Seriously, can we say plot manipulation?Never mind.Reed, of course, has a big secret (not the ex, thank small mercies) that only he must know....leading to a situation where Charlotte all but chased him around like the coyote and the road-runner. Mad props to Char for tenacity, but mehn, that woman needed a dose of self-love.Eventually, and only when it seems Char might prefer another bloke, Reed roused from his pity party enough to pursue her right all the way to France.And....well, you can read my notes because I'm suddenly just tired and disillusioned. I had such high hopes for this book, I mean, just look at that cover. Le sigh.

Such a sweet story! Not what I expected going in but so much more that I couldn't put it down. I loved Reed and Charlotte! Everything that happened with the both of them made them that much more real. There were also some laugh out loud moments so watch out for those if you're reading in a public place or else people will look at you like you're crazy... You just gotta love Miss Darling! ðŸ˜ðŸ‘Œ

I always get so excited when I see a new book by these two authors. They always write unique stories that you canâ€™t put down, this one was no different. I loved everything about this book and the cover.Charlotte is looking at wedding dresses at a second hand store. She is trying to sell her unused wedding dress but the store will only give credit. So she walks out of the store with a gorgeous wedding dress with a hand written blue note stitched inside.Reed is in real estate and sells very big expensive properties. While doing a showing he meets Charlotte and their meeting doesnâ€™t go so well. After the awful showing she receives a job offer she canâ€™t turn down. She never expected she would be working for Reed.The chemistry between these two was off the charts. I loved the banter between them. There were times this book would have me in tears and then I would be laughing. Hate Notes had it all and was perfection! I highly recommend this book and canâ€™t wait for more work from these amazing authors.

I love love love LOVE this book so much. Reed is afraid to love because of his illness but he fell so hard for Charlotte that he is more afraid of losing her than loving her. This book does not have much sexual scenes, but it sure yanks your heartstrings a lot. I teared up twice.

I especially appreciated the bio of the author of â€œHunt Them Down.â€The opening displayed great potential, for enjoyment and for disappointment. By Chapter 4, I was, alas, leaning towards disappointment. Why?1 - The author gives us an info dump about Chicago and the street value of a kilo of heroin and how some $15 Mn is peanuts to a drug cartel. Granted, if done correctly, this sort of information CAN lend credibility, so at this point Iâ€™m not too concerned, but...2 - The writer decides he wants the embedded tv journalist (equipped with his own camera, I think, to be a hater of police â€œbulliesâ€ (authorâ€™s words, not mine). The reporter is a â€˜prima donnaâ€™ who live tweets a raid, thus enabling an escape/defense by cartel members, who kill a member of the team. Mind you, all of this happens in the first three or four chapters, so I donâ€™t consider these revelations to be spoilers. When you come across a reporter who dares to even think of his greatness stemming from tragedy, well, part of me wanted to toss my Kindle-app equipped iPad across the room. But, then, as a former journalist, I donâ€™t view the media as an enemy of the people.But, I abhor reviews that reveal too much of a bookâ€™s plot, so will stop here.BLUSH FACTOR: One might expect an Action-Adventure to feature hard-edged characters evoking profanities. In that sense, there are no surprises here. Some will be disappointed in the number of eff-words, but, as for me, the language spoken felt real, even if the number exceeded the artistic needs. Put simply, donâ€™t plan on reading to children or to your prayer group.CHARACTER: Early on, it felt as though the writer might be developing cartoon characters, but I also surmised he might be setting me up for turning the jerk reporter into a buddy to the agent later in the story, so I read on. Certainly, the agent (Hunt) felt like he was drawn on the authorâ€™s alter-ego.EXCERPTâ€˜...Moore couldnâ€™t believe his luck. He checked his live viewers. Ten thousand and climbing. Amazing. The likes were coming in faster than ever before. And so were the comments.He had filmed everything, including when the lead special agentâ€”what was his name again? Oh yeah, Huntâ€”had shot the man who had just surrendered. Mooreâ€™s whole body was shakingâ€”not from fear but from excitement. He quietly climbed out of the Durango and continued to film. I'm a homeschooler and wanted some extra, grab and go word problems for my first grade sons. We are not using a set curriculum for math this year but use a series of books and the common core standards to help guide our learning. Although we haven't had a chance to use these books today (they just arrived), I'm very happy with the colorful pages, quality, and # of pages in the book. I was hoping this book would be more substantial than the ones I pick up in dollar bins and they are! (These have 60 pages, double sided where my $1 books from Target have 30.). I thought I would share a few pics right away as I was hesitant to order without seeing first, but took the gamble (which I'm glad I did). They seem worth the price and will be more exciting for my children to work with than black and white word problem pages.

If your child is having trouble conquering word problems, this book is for you. My 7-year-old is doing well academically but following directions and solving math problems has always been challenging. His speech therapist recommended making a list of words and word pairs that indicate addition or subtraction (sum, total, in all, alltogether or how many more/less, difference). This book uses the same technique. It really helped my almost 3rd grader to get over the fear of math problems and now we are moving on from grade 1-2 book to grade 3-4. This book is a must for any child who is struggling with word problems, I went through many books and this series has been the best

My son enjoys the lessons in this book. He is doing really well reading the problems himself and solving them. I like that it's keeping the school work fresh in his mind during the summer.

Love this School Zone books, right on the spot what I wanted for my kids, problem solving that makes them THINK!!!! Exactly what every kid needs nowadays, TO REASON!!!!! Super happy with them :) Strongly recommend to every parent!!!

This book is very affordable and has a good selection of problem types. The book seems to be a little on the easier side for a first grader, so this might be better as practice with students who need intervention.

This is a beautiful book with beautiful pictures. I have the feeling the previous rater is a local who was looking for something particular in the book about his mountain that he did not find. The pictures are great as is the abundant info about the resort and it's history.

Fine book if you grew up at Whistler and know all the local racers/skiers.Otherwise, very little historical information about the largest ski area in North America. Too bad. Also, the photography is just OK. Mostly photos of people, not Whistler. Again, too bad.The other books in this series are much better: Vail, Mammoth, Stowe.

We spend our summers in Whistler and this is a wonderful book describing its young history and the people that were a part of it. Very beautiful photography! Recommend it.

I want to tell future readers of this book in this way. I read it first when I was 14 or 15. I thought it was a book on how to smartly fight a war. Then I re-read it when I was 28 and it occurred to me that it may be an instruction book on how to navigate an honorable life. Years passed and I recently found it at the bottom of a box in my closet. I read it again at age 56. I realized it has more to offer. If you read this book, you will actively have to replace Sun Tzus' ancient terms and placement of hierarchy and apply them to modern situations and people. Family, bosses, neighbors, employees and the list goes on. It is my belief that this "manual" can help solve minor and major disruptions in life if used correctly. It is a book meant for good.

This is a ~15 page "summary" of the book. Ordered this thinking it was the full text because it doesn't say otherwise in the description.

Itâ€™s clear that Mr. Gagliardi is extremely passionate about all things Sun Tzu. Through various repackaged books sold both here at Amazon and through the â€œScience of Strategy Instituteâ€ he set up to sell you Sun Tzu themed board games and videos, he has certainly created a virtual cottage industry of Sunzi-phernalia. In addition, he also offers personalized training packages for up to $1,500 to amp up your ability to unleash the power of Sun Tzuâ€™s system of total and complete victory in all competitive endeavors you face, whether in the boardroom or the bedroom.But all of this aside, how successful is Mr. Gagliardi at his most basic task: competently translating Sun Tzuâ€™s original text, The Art of War? The answer: not very.This book is a complete mess, with unforgivable errors in both translation and general knowledge concerning China and the Warring States era present in almost every verse. In lieu of a laundry list I will give you just a one line example where Mr. Gagliardi clearly shows that he is out of his depth in terms of translation competence. I maintain a database of 30 translations of The Art of War in English that I use to compare and contrast various efforts, and included the screenshot of the relevant verse so you can compare it to how others have approached the text.In Chapter 11, Sun Tzu is concerned that his own soldiers might either break and run or else refuse to support the other flanks of his own army while in battle. To show how this can be remedied, Sun Tzu brings up the example of how a certain snake can provide a valuable lesson for his soldiers. As Gagliardi translates it, the line reads: â€œAct like an ordinary mountain snake.â€From a noviceâ€™s perspective, this could be a defensible translation choice. The original Chinese characters for this line are: CHANG SHAN ZHI SHEIf you looked up each character individually via the internet you could definitely make a case that the line could read: ordinary mountain (of) snakeThe problem is that professional translation doesnâ€™t work this way (a one-for-one translation of characters), and you have to understand all of the nuances applicable to how these thoughts are put together, especially when you are talking about a millennia old text written in a language vastly different than its modern equivalent. What a competent Sinologist would easily understand, but Gagliardi obviously didnâ€™t, is that the character CHANG isnâ€™t functioning as an adjective modifying the noun â€œsnake,â€ but instead is the proper noun indicating the name of the mountain on which the snake resides. So the line should read: â€œAct like the snake of Mt. Changâ€So while Gagliardi is perfectly content in his own ignorance that Sun Tzu is talking about an ordinary snake, what the text is really saying is that he needs his soldiers to be like an EXTRAordinary snake which possesses the magical ability to continue providing support to its endangered other half even after being cleaved into two separate parts.Now if you are looking to really get beyond the basics of the translation (say like someone who is willing to shell out $1,500 for advanced personal lessons) and might be curious where this Mt. Chang is located and why it was relevant to Sun Tzu, you might be surprised. Sun Tzu never actually mentioned Mt. Chang, but instead was referring to a Mt. Heng, where this extraordinary snake supposedly lived (by the way, Sun Tzu gave the snake a name, the Shuairan, a fact that was completely missed by Gagliardi). It turns out that the oldest extant copy of the Art of War was transcribed during the Han Dynasty period. What professional Sinologists know but Mr. Gagliardi might not, is that in classical Chinese there was a prohibition on using characters that were the same as the personal name of the sitting emperor. At around the same time as we believe the earliest version of The Art of War was transcribed, Emperor Wen of Han was sitting on the throne and had a personal name of â€œLiu Hengâ€ which means that â€œHengâ€ would need to be omitted from all texts. â€œHengâ€ actually means â€œPerseveranceâ€ and it turns out that â€œChangâ€ also carries the meaning of â€œPerseveranceâ€ so Mt. Heng was changed to Mt. Chang to get around this prohibitionâ€”an interesting tidbit for your next trivia night.Of course the name change does nothing to impact your understanding of the Art of War, but does illustrate the difference between buying a copy of the The Art of War from a professional Sinologist who understands both the translation issues and can provide relevant historical and philosophical background, and the rank amateur who does this for a hobby and wants to pass off an inferior product hoping you won't know the difference. There are too many professionally done Sun Tzu translations available by qualified individuals (Ames, Griffith, Sawyer, Ivanhoe, Mair, Minford) to justify paying the same amount of money for Mr. Gagliardiâ€™s lackluster effort.You wouldnâ€™t select a surgeon for your triple-bypass surgery simply because he was â€œpassionateâ€ about cutting people open and learned some things on the internet. You would want to select someone who has years of relevant professional experience under their belt, and just as important, board certified. Fortunately, the stakes aren't quite so high when choosing the best Sun Tzu translation, but the same principle should apply. Don't be an ordinary purchaser of this classic text, be an extraordinary one.

Just received the book. No where in the description does it say it is a shortened version of the book. I feel like I was ripped off

The advice in this book still stands today, specifically regarding the use of spies and several of the land based tactics. Allow me to elaborate.As we do every Tuesday morning, I met with my local men's group for our workout on the local preschool playground, the only location where one can engage in the strenuous exercises of running up slides and seesaw step aerobics. And as with every other Tuesday, those darn preschoolers invaded, effectively smashing our vanguard and dividing our force, which spurned a tactical retreat that quickly turned into a rout.While checking Amazon for some first aid supplies to refill our field dressing kits, I came across this book. I spent the next 6 months reading it cover to cover, every night. Then I began to plan.Sun Tzu taught me that in order to overwhelm a force superior in numbers, a great commander must disguise his own numbers and employ subterfuge to sow doubt and terror among his enemy's ranks. To this end, we started a month-long psychological terror operation consisting of pictures of frowny faces drawn in crayon and constant blaring of vintage Barney recordings. The effect of this was to ruin nap time and exhaust the enemy.We then started to probe enemy supply lines, effectively cutting off all supplies of milk. Like nap time, snack time was also ruined. The enemy's desperation began to show, and their decision making processes became clouded. At their weakest point mentally, we infiltrated.12 of our best soldiers dawned velcro shoes and tiny people clothing stolen from distracted enemy backpacks, and slipped in amongst the preschool class. Talk of allegiances of bored grown up dads unifying under a single banner, superior in numbers, claiming the ancient rite of first dibs spread amongst the enemy much as a pox. A rumor of an eminent first strike began to spread. Action would have to be taken.The toddlers assembled their forces, calling in all allies, and marched under the banner of the PTA---a ruse already uncovered by our spy network---in an attempt to cause our forces to believe that the greatest of foes, that of angry and bored suburban mothers, may have been persuaded to take up arms.We created the illusion of superior numbers by meeting this frontal assault head on and melting away several times, followed by a false pincer movement that caused the enemy children to concentrate their forces along their northern flank and slowing their advance. We had taken the high ground including the big slide, and placed scouts on the monkey bars to monitor enemy movements. Through a brilliant plan by one of our commanders, we were able to turn on the soccer field sprinklers the night before and totally saturate the ground. Our enemy's tiny feet bogged down in the mud, causing further chaos and allowing our artillery, consisting of six 40mm water balloon launchers to rain devastation and sheer terror upon the remaining force. Our calvary executed a brilliant flanking maneuver and encircled the enemy, who exhausted, wet, and cranky, sued for peace.Our terms were very favorable: permanent playground dibs and a 30% tariff on all snack imports and seizure of all chocolate milk, with harsh stipulations of wedgies for any violations of terms.We owe this great victory to Sun Tzu. As I peer over the freshly seeded green grass each morning that was once the site of our most grand of victories, and see the tiny enemy faces gazing sadly upon what was once their most holy patch of earth, I smile in satisfaction and gratitude for the Art of War's timeless teachings.And I wait. For our enemy force will soon graduate to elementary school, and a fresh force will take their place again. This battle is won, but the war may very well drag on. Our vigilance is our greatest asset, our hard earned wisdom our only hope. The spirit of Sun Tzu smiles upon us today, but we must never falter.

This is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. It should say PUBLIC DOMAIN as it is like a copy from someone who took notes off of someone who took notes who took notes off someone who doesn't even write in the English language! It is woefully abridged (to the max) looks like it was not edited or proofread and I loathe it. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL

The author adds his own knowledge along with Sun Tzu's. And the author's additions are excellent. You might find Sun Tsu on the net in PDF or something, but I wanted a book form and the author was a pleasant surprise for his own good knowledge on these matters. Its a fairly short book, but that it compares so much with modern warfare and intelligence wars that you should get to know it.
